The Spanish Dinner

Thursday, January 28, 2016

The major part of the international´s student lives in the same area. Sometimes dinners are organized among the neighbors and other students. Maricel, a wonderful Spanish girl, invited us for a dinner in her apartment. She cooked a delicious Spanish tortilla. When you are in the company of our colleagues it is impossible don’t talk about your own country and don’t share part of your cultural heritage. When the group is reunited we talk about music, dances, food…everything that characterizes a country. After dinner Maricel decided to teach us Salsa. Three Austrian students also taught us the Austrian Waltz. In Portugal we also have traditional dances that belongs to a very ancient heritage. It is so good when it is possible to learn new cultural experiences in such a direct way. It was a very pleasant night.

Ice Skating

Wednesday, January 20, 2015

I like to walk. It feels good to know the way by our own feet. But what if I could slide? How nice it would be... And how good it WAS!The international student´s group organized a moment of ice skating followed by a barbecue (where they had vegetarian´s sausages!).  I put on the skates, number 39, stepped the track and concentrated my self. On the ice rink I was an acrobat (actually I needed help the entire time and gave a big fall!). I loved the experience and I did not want it to finish! With all this excitement, a few days ago, went to a second hand store and bought a pair of  ice skates to practice more. I also tried to look for a pulka (sledge) but since I could not find it I decided to buy a stjärtlapp (butt slide). I will enjoy snow as much as I can.

All that matters

Every single gesture in life is caused by love. Every sacrifice, every smile, every tear…love is that powerful.
The international student's group went to Gränna. We visited the Grenna Museum, where we listened the story of Andrée, a passionate dreamer about the unknown.
Andrée had the crazy idea to go to the North Pole by balloon.  With more two companions he concretized his big dream. This adventure had a tragic, but poetic ending.
Courage cures death…that is the only medicine against time. Braveness´s actions transforms us in immortal beings.
Andrée's passion for adventure gave him courage to fly with his own balloon to the northern part of Earth.  Because of that remains alive in our memories.
I will never forget his story. Gränna is known for the traditional candy stores. Polkagris and caramels fills the store´s shelves. It´s impossible to resist! After a typical Swedish FIKA we went to see  Vättern, the big blue (and frozen) lake. There are almost 100 000 lakes throughout the country. In the afternoon the whole group went to IKEA. We took the opportunity to buy needed tools for our temporary (but not less beloved) home.
